Whatever you think of the show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Caitlyn Jenner coming out as transgender was bigger than the show itself.

The news crossed into the mainstream cultural conversation and the sports world that made her famous. Perhaps that’s why there’s been so much speculation about the youngest Kardashian-Jenner daughter’s sexuality.

More subdued than her sisters, the 22-year-old Kendall Jenner opened up to Vogue for its April issue. She invites the writer into her world of horseback riding, transcendental meditation and her relationship with basketball star, Blake Griffin.

At one point in the interview Kendall insists many times over she’s not a lesbian.

How Kendall Jenner is bringing back film (and ruining it for some)

“I don’t think I have a bisexual or gay bone in my body, but I don’t know!,” she told Vogue. “Who knows?! I’m all down for experience—not against it whatsoever—but I’ve never been there before.”

She professes to have a male energy but not identify as transgender: “I have a tough energy. I move differently. But to answer your question: I’m not gay. I have literally nothing to hide.”

It’s almost uncomfortable with how much she insists she’s totally not gay.

She hasn’t “come out as straight” as some have suggested. She’s just straight and had to spell it out. Using that language undermines the real struggle that LGBTQ people face.

it’s not brave for someone to come out as straight. you’re not at a higher risk of being harassed or put in danger because your sexuality is accepted by all of society.

stop saying that kendall jenner is brave for coming out as straight. she’s really not. sorry not sorry.

Jenner shouldn’t have had to defend her sexuality in the first place. It’s a private matter, and should be up to interview subject if they want to discuss their sexual preferences.

The media risks outing a person before they’re ready or pushing them further away from being comfortable in public. Or, we can end up cringe-worthy interviews where queer celebrities insist they’re straight. In any case, there are more interesting things to ask a 22 year old.
